What do we gain from talking about literature? Literary salons are a great social event (and a year of social distancing has taught us how important that is in itself) but what else do they contribute to our culture and community? Our panel of writers will discuss the history of salons and how they have evolved to fit the times, and reveal what they have learned from participating in literary conversations and how hearing other voices has informed their understanding of literature and the world.
Asmaa Seddiq Al-Mutawa is the founder of Al Multaqa, an award-winning literary salon aimed at developing intellectual cognitive abilities. She is chair of the cultural committee of the board of directors for the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Centre in Al Ain. Mohamed Al Marzooqi is the author of This is How the Reader Speaks: Presumptive Criticism and Other Concerns, and has written since 2010 for Emirates Today newspaper. He has founded many reading clubs such as the Russian Literature Salon in 2013 and the Nobel Friends Club in 2015.
Ghaith Hassan Alhosani from UAE who founded the Russian Literature Salon and Nobel Friends Club and he is also a Board member and chairman the Reading and Innovation Committee of the Emirates Library and Information Association.
