Comedy or Tragedy? Which of these ancient genres best helps us understand the world?

Before we reveal the winner of the 2020 Costa Debate, we challenge four Festival authors to present their arguments and convince us whether we should laugh or cry when we think of tomorrow.

Team COMEDY comprises Maria Dadouch, a novelist and screenwriter with more than 40 books for children and adults to her name, and Graeme Simsion, whose Rosie Project series plays on the absurdities of relationships and academic life.

On Team TRAGEDY we have Khalid Al Naserallah, acclaimed Kuwaiti author of The Final Small Recommendations and The Highest Low, and Costa First Novel Award winner Stuart Turton, author of the twisty, genre-defying mystery The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle.

This session is free to attend but requires a ticket.

The winners of the Costa Debate competition will be announced immediately after the session.
