In-depth playwriting course led by world renowned playwright Alex Broun

DUBAI, DECEMBER 2018: The skills in writing a compelling drama will be revealed by world renowned playwright Alex Broun in Emirates Literature Foundation’s comprehensive nine-week playwriting course, which starts in January 2019.

Aimed at writers who want to try their hand at writing for the theatre, or existing playwrights who want to develop their craft and build on their skills, Broun will explain what it takes to capture an idea and transform it from page to stage. The course culminates in participants reading their one act plays at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature in March.

Leading Australian playwright Alex Broun has run his play writing workshops all over the world. Over the weeks, writers will explore all facets of stage writing including structure, story and situation, character, dialogue, theatricality, creating dramatic tension and humour.

“Alex has worked with hundreds of talented writers, and this will be a very rare opportunity for writers in the UAE to gain the right skills by learning from one of the masters of the craft,” said Isobel Abulhoul, chief executive officer and trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation.

The course will run every Sunday night from 7.30pm-9.30pm from 6 January at the Emirates Literature Foundation’s home in Al Shindagha Historical District (next to the Al Ghubaiba Metro Station). The readings at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature will take place on Sunday 3 March.

The cost is AED 1,000. Places are limited and can be booked online here: https://www.elfdubai.org/en/playwriting-course-with-alex-broun
