Second Consecutive Win Announced at What’s On Awards Dubai 2017

Dubai, 9 November 2017: Reigning champions Emirates Airline Festival of Literature held onto the title of Dubai’s Favourite Festival at last night’s What’s On Awards Dubai 2017. The Festival, considered the region’s largest celebration of the written and spoken word, has become an annual fixture on Dubai’s entertainment and cultural calendar, with its 10th edition planned for 1-10 March, 2018. The award was accepted by Yvette Judge, Chief Operating Officer of the Emirates Literature Foundation.

Speaking about the win, Judge said, ‘This award is particularly important to us, because it is voted for by the public! We strive, every year, to make the Festival appeal to a diverse range of audiences, languages and tastes, and the 2017 Festival certainly eclipsed those goals with two packed weekends of sessions by international and local authors. For us, it is vital that we create a programme that is engaging for all; be they readers or not. We are looking forward to the 2018 Festival continuing this trend.’

Established in 2009, the Festival, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has grown into the UAE’s premier literary festival.

The 10th Emirates Airline Festival of Literature will be held from 1-10 March 2018. Last month, organisers announced the blockbuster list of authors who will be attending the event next year, including actor, comedian and children’s author David Walliams, Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan, Locke & Key comic series writer and illustrator duo Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2017 winner Mohammed Hasan Alwan, Palestinian great Ibrahim Nasrallah, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning science-fiction author Nnedi Okorafor, UAE Ambassador to France His Excellency Omar Saif Ghobash and writer of the new Tomb Raider game Rhianna Pratchett, among many others.

Alongside the main programme of sessions, the Festival’s popular student competitions, author school visits and Education Days will also take place during the 10 days.
