Writers are naturally solitary creatures, so I’m actually going to enjoy meeting as many writers as I can, especially as so many are from different cultures and backgrounds to me, which is always a rewarding experience.
Which book has inspired you the most?
There isn’t a specific ‘one’; but an early influence was Lord Of The Rings, while recently I’ve enjoyed the work of Claire North and Alastair Reynolds.
What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
My day is quite mundane. Get breakfast ready for the kids, then the school run, and finally go to my shed at the bottom of the garden to write.
What is your life’s motto?
Be positive and optimistic.
Our theme for the 2017 Festival is Journeys. Can you tell us which journeys in your life have been most memorable?
Walking up Kilimanjaro. The range of climates in that one ascent is extraordinary.
