Salem Al Marri is the Assistant Director General for Scientific and Technical Affairs, Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.
In his capacity as the Assistance Director General for Scientific and Technical Affairs at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), Salem Al Marri is responsible for ensuring that the vision and mission of the MBRSC are successfully achieved through the various programmes being run at the centre within the UAE National Space Programme which is based on four pillars: Mars 2117, Emirates Mars Mission “Hope Probe”, UAE Astronaut Programme, and Satellite Development Programme.
Al Marri wields over fifteen years of experience, and has been an integral part of the teams that set up both the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) which then became MBRSC in 2006. He has also served as the Director of the Space Programme Department at the EIAST, and has served as the Project Manager for MBRSC’s Earth observation satellite projects DubaiSat-1 and DubaiSat-2.
For his achievements, Al Marri received the UAE Pioneers Award in 2014 for being the first project manager of the UAE satellite Dubaisat-1 and Dubaisat-2. He has represented the UAE and the MBRSC through presentations and papers in over 50 international conferences worldwide, and has been a returning member of the delegation to the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPOUS).
