Peter Dale spent 25 years teaching Mathematics in Dubai College until his retirement in 2013. He and his wife Joan then exchanged the hustle and bustle of Dubai for the tranquility of rural life in South-West France. He describes his days as wonderfully boring: making breakfast, solving the Guardian daily crossword, labouring in an unruly acre of garden, playing plenty of (very bad) golf, enjoying French culinary delights and celebrating the French tricolour of red, white and rose. Dealing with the cold winter months is not a problem; he and Joan spend them in Dubai working at the Desert Classic golf tournament and the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature respectively.
