Syrian writer and director Obada Takla holds a bachelor’s in law from Damascus University and a master’s degree in directing and acting from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts.
He has published many stories for children through several Arab Publishing Houses, the most popular of which are Arij, Hanin, The Radio of Stories, Paper’s Story and I am an Emirati Child. Puppets’ Girl won the My Book Award in 2017. His short story collection for adults is titled Seven Faces from St Petersburg and his monodrama Lorca’s Return was longlisted at the Fujairah International Arts Festival in 2020.
Obada directed a number of documentaries during his university years, including the movie A Country in a Cafe. He also worked as a consultant for the Russian film Palmyra, and performed the audio of the Majnun Laila poems in Arabic in the Russian film, Laila’s Majnun.
He currently gives private lessons in acting
