Marilyn Booth

Marilyn Booth is the Khalid bin Abdallah Al Saud Professor for the Study of the Contemporary Arab World, Oriental Institute and Magdalen College, Oxford University. In 2018, she held a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. Her most recent monograph is Classes of Ladies of Cloistered Spaces, and she recently edited Migrating Texts: Circulating Translations around the Ottoman Mediterranean. Other books include biographies in the Arabic women’s press and on nationalist vernacular writing. She has translated numerous works by Arabic writers including Hoda Barakat, Hasan Daoud, and Ilyas Khuri. She was co-winner of the 2019 Man Booker International Prize, with novelist Jokha Alharthi, for her translation of Sayyidat al-qamar (Celestial Bodies).
