Maha Hassan is a Syrian novelist. She was twice longlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, in 2011 for The Umbilical Cord, and in 2014 for Female Voices.
Her work has been translated into English, French and Kurdish. Her 2018 novel War Drums is slated to be translated into Italian.
Hassan is a regular at literary festivals and book fairs around Europe and the Arab World.
For a year, Hassan lived in the renovated apartment of Anne Frank at the Amsterdam Merwedeplein at the behest of Amsterdam Vluchtstad.
In 2005, Hassan was awarded the Hellman Hammett prize.
She has been living in France since 2004.
