Jokha Alharthi

Jokha Alharthi is the winner of the 2019 Man Booker International Prize for her novel Celestial Bodies, the first Arabic winner of the award.

Jokha was educated in Oman and the UK.  She obtained her PhD in classical Arabic literature from Edinburgh University, and currently works as Associate Professor in the Arabic department at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat. She is the author of ten books, including Celestial Bodies, published by Sandstone Press in the UK, and Narinjah, winner of the Sultan Qaboos Award for culture, art and literature in Oman, as well as two collections of short stories, two children’s books, and three novels.
