Ian Rankin is best known for his police procedural detective fiction Inspector Rebus novels, the 22nd of which, In a House of Lies, was published in 2018. He has also written standalone novels including Doors Open, short stories, and the graphic novel Dark Entries. He co-wrote the play Dark Road with Mark Thomson, the Royal Lyceum Theatre’s Artistic Director, and collaborated with the singer Jackie Leven on a CD. He has presented the documentaries including Ian Rankin’s Evil Thoughts and Ian Rankin Investigates Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
His awards include four Crime Writers’ Association Dagger Awards including the prestigious Diamond Dagger, Denmark’s Palle Rosenkrantz prize, the French Grand Prix du Roman Noir and Germany’s Deutscher Krimipreis. Ian has received an OBE for services to literature, opting to receive the prize in his home city of Edinburgh, where he lives with his wife and two sons.
