Huzama Habayeb

Huzama Habayeb is a Palestinian storyteller, novelist and prize winner of Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature 2017 for her novel Velvet.

In the 1990s, she was recognized as one of the most prominent writers of the Arab World and gained her fame with her first collection of short stories, The Man Who Repeats, which won the Jerusalem Youth Innovation Award in 1993.

she published her first novel, The Origin of Love in 2007, four years later she published her second novel Before the Queen Sleeps, the novel was also among The Guardian’s Books of the Year 2012 list.
