Holly Black is an American writer and editor, known for the children’s fantasy books The Spiderwick Chronicles and the trilogy Modern Faerie Tales.
The author graduated with a B.A in English from The College of New Jersey before becoming a production editor on medical journals such as The Journal of Pain.
Holly went on to publish her first novel Valiant which won the inaugural Andrea Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy and was a finalist for the annual Mythopoeic Fantasy Award. The Spiderwick Chronicles was a series in collaboration with Tony DiTerlizzi which later became a film adaptation. The last book in the series reached the top of the New York Times Bestseller list in 2004. She also co-wrote with young adult author Cassandra Clare on the Magisterium series which has already been optioned for the screen by Constantin Films.
She is currently writing the Folk of the Air series. Book 1, The Cruel Prince, was met with widespread praise and is followed by The Wicked King.
