Hatoon al-Fassi is a Saudi historian specialising in women’s history. She is a professor at King Saud University in Riyadh and received her Ph.D from the University of Manchester. She writes for ‘al-Riyadh’, a daily national newspaper in Saudi Arabia. She is also a constant commentator on Saudi women’s issues for the national and international media and led the suffragettes of Saudi women in the municipal councils in 2015. Dr Al Fassi has published books and peer reviewed articles in Arabic and English. Her latest article appeared in Sept 2016 entitled: “Saudi Women and Islamic Discourse, Selected Examples of Saudi Feminisms” in HAWWA/Brill, Journal of Women of the Middle East and the Islamic World.
