Emtithal ‘Emi’ Mahmoud was born in Darfur, Sudan and moved to the United States in 1998. Educated at Yale, Emi was named one of BBC’s 100 Most Inspirational Women of 2015. She was the 2015 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion and 2016 Woman of the World co-Champion.
Emi dedicates her time to supporting the cause of refugees and disadvantaged communities through poetry and advocacy. She is a regular contributor to UN, White House and TED events and discussions.
She joined the ‘How to do good’ tour in January 2017 and performed to standing ovations in Oslo, Stockholm, The Hague, Brussels, Paris, London and New York.
Her first book, Sisters’ Entrance, will be published in early 2018 by Andrews McMeel.
