Dr. Rafia Ghubash is the first qualified psychiatrist in the UAE.
She conducted pioneering epidemiological research on the socio-cultural risk factors for psychiatric disorders in the UAE community and attained a PhD at the University of London. She has conducted numerous other studies in applied mental health research and has published 45 papers in international peer-reviewed journals.
She served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAE University from 1992-2000 and became the first woman president of the Arabian Gulf University from 2001-2009.
Dr. Ghubash has branched herself out in varied roles which include founding the Woman’s Museum in Dubai to honour the role that women have played in the history of the UAE.
