Since 1998, Asmaa Seddiq Al-Mutawa, from the United Arab Emirates, has dedicated her time to cultural, intellectual and voluntary work. She established the Al Multaqa, a literary salon aimed at developing intellectual cognitive abilities, which has participated in cultural activities at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair since 2008, with new groups the Forum Friends and the Thought Group emerging from its Forum. Al Multaqa Salon has won several prizes, including the Al Janadriyah Festival Award and a UAE Pioneers award for best individual initiative to encourage reading, along with the Arab Woman Award from Harper’s Bazaar Arabia magazine.
Asmaa is chair of the cultural committee of the board of directors for the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Centre in Al Ain, and a founding member and special advisor for the Regional Office of Médecins Sans Frontières, Abu Dhabi. She is also a Goodwill Ambassador for Médecins Sans Frontières and a former advisor to the Assistant Director-General for Culture, UNESCO in Abu Dhabi. She has an MA in Contemporary Islam from Zayed University.
