Andrey Kurkov

Andrey Kurkov is a Ukrainian novelist who writes in Russian. His books are noted for their black humour, post-Soviet reality and elements of surrealism.

He is the author of 20 novels and 8 books for children. His work has been translated into 37 languages.

Kurkov writes articles for worldwide publications and has also won several awards for his film scripts. His literary awards include the Swiss Readers’ Prize, Ukraine’s Writer of the Year, the International Nikolai Gogol Prize and The Readers Choice Prize.

He has served as jury member for the Man Booker International Prize.

Kurkov is currently Vice President of the Ukrainian PEN Center and Head of Editorial at Culture and Life newspaper.
