The wife and husband writing duo, Ambrose Parry, consists of bestselling author Chris Brookmyre and his wife Dr Marisa Haetzman, a consultant anaesthetist of twenty years’ experience. Chris Brookmyre is a Scottish novelist whose work mixes comedy, politics and action. His debut novel was Quite Ugly One Morning; his recent work includes Places in the Darkness and Black Widow, the latter of which won both the McIlvanney and Theakstons prizes.
Their first novel together is The Way of the Flesh, a historical crime series set in Victorian Edinburgh. Haetzman’s experience as a consultant anaesthetist and her research for her Master’s degree in the History of Medicine helped influence the novel, which takes places during an era of medical innovation.
