The Celebration of Words has begun! Today is the first day of the 2012 Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, and the next five days promise to be packed with enlightening, entertaining and engrossing talks from 130 international authors, performers and speakers. Opening Night – Tonight!

Tonight’s Opening Night extravaganza at the Al Mamzar Theatre features Terry Wogan in conversation with Bernard Creed, followed by international poets Imtiaz Dharker, John Agard, Yang Lian and Daljit Nagra in a performance session curated by festival stalwart Paul Blezard. There will also be food available from La Vita restaurant. Buy tickets here.

Get a taste of international cuisine at the 2012 Emirates LitFest with our food events. Top chefs Bobby Chinn, Suzanne Husseini and Giorgio Locatelli will be discussing the differences and similarities between Asian, Arabic and Sicilian cuisines in the Foodie Panel – and that’s just for starters. Ibrahim Al Koni: the iconic Libyan writer returns to the LitFest

Ibrahim Al Koni, acclaimed Libyan Tuareg author of more than 80 books and winner of the Sheikh Zayed Award and the Arabic Novel Award, took part in the first Emirates LitFest back in 2009 and was among our best-received speakers. Now here's another chance to meet this literary giant.
