Andy Stanton lives in abject squalor in North London. It doesn’t matter how many awards he wins or how many books he sells, that’s just the way he likes it. He studied English at Oxford (which shouldn’t have been too hard given that he’s English) but they kicked him out. He has been a film script reader (he got a bit better at reading), a cartoonist, an NHS lackey and lots of other things. He has many interests, but best of all he likes Radio 4, books (more reading) and music (even jazz). One day he’d like to live in New York or Berlin or one of those places because he’s got fantasies of bohemia. His favourite expressions are ‘Good evening’ and ‘The truth is a lemon meringue!’ and his favourite word is ‘captain’.
His Mr Gum series has been nominated for the Sheffield and Leicester Children’s Book Awards, the Guardian Children’s Book Prize, the UKLA Children’s Book Award, the Nibbies Children’s Book of the Year and the Branford Boase Book Award.
